If you go to Google (or have gone there recently), no doubt you’ll find a flood of information about merchant accounts. It’s sure a long list, from the “mega processors” and big banks to folks like us. And one thing is common.
They are all trying to get your business.
But one question remains…
How do you know if you’re getting a good deal if you don’t know all the details of setting up a merchant account?
Let me tell you one thing… it IS a lot more complicated than you might think. And the majority of merchant account providers don’t make it any easier to understand.
Beyond the basic stuff about needing a bank account to receive deposits from swiping (or keying in) your customers credit card info, how will you know what the real costs are, in dollars and cents.
There are lots of…
- rate traps
- pitfalls,
- non-cancelable agreements, and
- serious account problems
that can arise if you don’t know what you’re doing.
And if you ask me, those are the real issues that need to be discussed.
Probably 99% of the information available online now is free. Fair enough.
And that’s why I’ve put together this site, as a resource for clients (and those who’d like to be) to find useful information, case studies, etc. relevant to helping you make and informed decision.
In addition to that, my dad always said “you get what you pay for.”
And that does apply to the majority of the information that you’ll find out there. Most of it has become outdated. Or inaccurate. Or not very useful… because the people generating this free content are doing it to get you to sign up an account.
Which means, they will NOT really disclose to you all the ways a merchant account will work — like disclosing hidden fees or how rates really affect your account (will you be set up for 2-Tier, 3-Tier, 4-Tier, 6-Tier or Interchange Plus), for the simple reason that they don’t want to cut their own purse.
And that’s why I put together the “Merchant Account Survival Guide” as a way for business owners to get real, valuable information before signing up with a vendor and getting locked into a program that isn’t right for them.
Or fit their business needs.
I know it’s packed with useful information that will definitely save you time, money and aggravation. And shouldn’t that be the point?
