If you go to Google (or have gone there recently), no doubt you’ll find a flood of information about merchant accounts.  And if you try to cut through the hype, the noise and the talk, one question remains…

How Can You Compare Merchant Accounts?

Let’s face facts.  Without having a kind of yardstick to measure the different merchant account providers, there’s no way to make an objective comparison.

And the types of merchant account review sites out there typically aren’t review sites at all.

Far from it.

Side Note:  Here’s an internet marketing tip for you.  Most review sites aren’t review sites at all.  Affiliate marketers use this strategy to fool people into thinking they are getting objective information, when the site’s only goal is to sell you the item being reviewed.

As a test, next time you’re searching on Google and you see an ad on the right hand side, look for ads that say “don’t buy this until you read my review.”

Okay, back to the topic.

How do you know if you’re getting a good deal if you don’t know all the details of setting up a merchant account?  Not to mention that it’s a lot more complicated than you might think.

Beyond the basic stuff about needing a bank account to receive deposits from swiping (or keying in) your customers credit card info, how will you know what the real costs are, in dollars and cents.  There are lots of ”rate traps,” pitfalls, and serious account problems that can arise if you don’t know what you’re doing.
